“A rotting corpse in the grave is something usually unseen……until now!”

Thanatomorphose:  The visible signs of an organism’s decomposition caused by death.  So…have you ever wondered what a decomposing body might look like?  If so, then you may be a little twisted, but are in luck!  Brought to us by Canadian writer and director Eric Falardeau in his directorial debut, comes the 2012 body horror sick flick Thanatomorphose!  First released in Spain , the film began making its rounds though several film festivals, shocking and grossing out countless moviegoers everywhere!

THE PLOT

Laura (Kayden Rose) is a young and seemingly unhappy woman living alone in her apartment.  After a bit of a rough sexual encounter with her drunken and abusive boyfriend, she awakens the next morning with a few bruises on her body.  Already down on her luck, due to her unmotivated pursuit into art, low self esteem, and struggling with her own personal relationships with a few friends, she doesn’t seem to care too much about the bruises.  Rather than healing, the bruises soon start to get worse and begin spreading over her entire body.  This leads to her becoming somewhat reclusive and falling into a deeper depression.  As the days pass, her body begins to almost shut down, and it appears as though she is slowly beginning to decompose from the inside out!

SHOULD YOU SEE IT?

This film has been constantly compared to the movie Contracted, but I would have to disagree.  Although there are a couple of similarities, the two films are very different from each other.  I would say that of the two, this one is more shocking and disgusting.  That being said, Thanatomorphose is a very slow burn type of movie, and at times a bit boring.  There is very little dialog and character development.  It is more of an artsy and visual experience, including very grainy imagery and a bit of a symphonic score to add to the drama.  The standout feature of the film is the award winning special effects, which are VERY convincing and extremely graphic.  Not for the weak stomached, or squeamish, that’s for sure.  Overall, it’s a decent flick.  Tough to watch, but worth it for the gore hounds out there!
